Agar is an exam-preparation platform designed to help candidates prepare for the FRCPath Part 1 and Part 2 examinations. Its question banks, explanations, videos, marking feedback, and other educational materials are provided solely for learning and revision.

The content on Agar is not medical advice, clinical guidance, or a substitute for professional judgement. It must not be relied upon to diagnose, investigate, manage, or treat any patient, or to make any other clinical decision.

Use of Agar does not create a doctor-patient relationship or any professional advisory relationship between you and Agar or its authors.

No warranty

Although reasonable efforts are made to keep Agar's content accurate and up to date, educational content may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. You should verify important information against authoritative clinical and educational sources, rather than treating any single question, answer, or piece of feedback as authoritative.

Examination outcomes

Agar is an independent exam-preparation resource. Use of Agar does not guarantee examination success and does not represent or reproduce the official curriculum, examination questions, marking schemes, or examination materials of the Royal College of Pathologists.

AI-generated and AI-assisted content

Some questions and some Part 2 marking feedback on Agar are generated by artificial intelligence (AI), or are AI-assisted — for example, an AI-drafted question that has since been substantially edited by our clinical review team.

Content is labelled "AI-generated" until it has been reviewed and verified by a clinical microbiologist. Once verified, the label may be removed — but review does not guarantee correctness, and all content, reviewed or not, may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or become outdated over time.

AI-generated or AI-assisted marking is intended to provide educational feedback and may not accurately predict how an examiner would award marks in the actual examination. Treat a score given on Agar as a guide to your understanding, not as a prediction of your result in the real exam.

Always use your own judgement and consult authoritative clinical and educational sources where appropriate. Agar should be used only as an exam-preparation resource and never as a source of clinical guidance.

Where AI-assisted marking is used, your submitted answers may be processed by third-party AI service providers in order to generate that feedback. Further information about how your data is handled is provided in our Privacy Policy.

No patient-identifiable information

Do not upload or enter any patient-identifiable or confidential clinical information anywhere on Agar — including in Part 2 answers, question-flag reports, or any other free-text field.

This includes information about patients, colleagues, or any other identifiable individual: names, initials, dates of birth, addresses, NHS or hospital numbers, photographs, scans, screenshots, investigation reports, or any combination of details — including an unusual or rare presentation — that could identify someone, even without using their name.

If you want to discuss a real case, do so through your usual clinical governance channels, not on Agar.

How your data is used

Aggregated or de-identified information about how you use Agar may be used for education research and/or to help improve the platform. These are two separate, optional consents — you decide independently whether to opt in to either, and you can change your mind at any time from account settings. Declining both has no effect on your ability to use Agar. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Affiliation

Agar is an independent educational platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Royal College of Pathologists.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Agar excludes liability for losses arising from use of or reliance on the platform or its educational content, subject to any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
